NRCS Featured Conifer - Concolor Fir

The concolor fir's stately symmetrical growth habit makes it a great Christmas tree and landscape specimen. The blue-green needles have a pleasant citrus-like scent. Large cones add seasonal interest by turning a deep purple in the winter. It's the most widely used true fir in the eastern United States because of its adaptability and aesthetic appeal. It is also less trouble prone than its popular counterpart, the Colorado blue spruce. Simply put, if you are looking for an appealing, hardy, trouble-free conifer, Abies concolor is a perfect choice. - Shawn Kelly, Soil Conservationist
