We have a tree planting project that we are currently seeking volunteers for tomorrow, Wednesday April 22nd and Thursday April 23rd. We will be planting from 5-7pm each day, but volunteers can arrive late if needed.
Volunteers would help us plant a variety of native trees and shrubs along the butternut creek. We will meet at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte MI. This site was restored last year as part of a water quality and fish passage project. Portions of this site might be very muddy, so bring boots, shovels, gloves and prepare to get muddy.

Charlotte, Mich. — Consumers Energy and Michigan International Speedway have teamed up with the Michigan Association of Conservation District and Conservation Districts across Michigan to plant 50,000 white pine seedlings. The ”On Track to a Greener Michigan with Consumers Energy and Michigan International Speedway” is working locally with the Eaton Conservation District for the 2015 program to help provide white pine seedlings for group planting events here in our County.
“Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest utility, providing natural gas and electricity to 6.6 million of the state’s 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.” Consumers Energy has adopted sustainability as a company-wide goal. “That means we operate with a fundamental commitment to leave our company and state better than we found them. We strive to fulfill the needs and wants of our generation without compromising the ability of future generations to do the same.” says Brian Wheeler, Senior public information director. Nestled in the lush Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is the Great Escape, a venerable NASCAR national park where fans can get away and enjoy the very best in racing and camaraderie. It’s the love of racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike. “MIS takes great pride in knowing that our green initiatives have made a significant, positive impact to the environment and sport of auto racing, and we continue to do different things to move forward with those initiatives. It’s the right thing to do to protect our environment. Our brand at MIS is very much an environmentally friendly one”, said MIS President Roger Curtis.
